Belmont Fatality – Charles Young – 03 Feb 1911

(accident: 01 Feb 1911), aged 43, Miner, he was killed by a fall of roof (sulphur and dogger), 5 inches thick, which fell away from slips; this accident took place in a whole working near the outcrop, where the roof stone would be likely to be treacherous; the seam was only 6 feet thick, and props could be set or re-set with ease; the roof fell over a space of 17 feet by 14 feet, and it was bad judgment to expose such a large area without sufficient support; he died two days later
