Skelton Ironstone Mines Map

Kevin Ward has kindly loaded the project this wonderful colour map to share, it combines plans of three different mines, North Skelton, South Skelton and Longacres.

The pink areas denote “goafing” which is the removal of all ironstone, which results in the roof collapsing. The exact date is currently unknown but it must be after 1925 as that is mentioned on the map, and no later than 1947 as the railways are marked “LNER”.

Clicking on the map should load a high resolution PDF version.
